Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety is a natural human response — a sign that your mind and body are trying to protect you. But when that alert system stays on too long or becomes too intense, it can start to interfere with daily life. You might find yourself worrying constantly, feeling on edge, avoiding situations that used to be manageable, or struggling to relax or sleep. The good news is that anxiety is highly treatable, and many effective approaches can help you regain calm, confidence, and clarity.
How I Work
My work with anxiety draws on methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), while also integrating other approaches that address each person’s unique needs. CBT offers practical tools for identifying and changing the thoughts and behaviors that maintain anxiety, and is highly supported by extensive research. I often incorporate relaxation and mindfulness strategies, somatic awareness, and insight-oriented exploration to help you connect with the emotional and physical roots of your distress. This flexible approach allows us to combine structure and depth — helping you not only manage symptoms, but understand yourself more fully.
What Our Sessions Will Look Like
When we begin, we’ll work together to understand your anxiety: what situations trigger it, the thoughts and physical sensations that accompany it, and how it shows up in your behavior and daily life. From there, we’ll set goals that matter to you — whether that’s reducing panic attacks, improving sleep, speaking in public, managing social anxiety, or simply finding peace of mind. Sessions are collaborative; I’ll provide you with tools and homework to try things out between meetings, and we’ll regularly track your progress so we can adjust what’s working (and what’s not).
Moving Forward
Anxiety can be deeply distressing — it impacts not only your mind but also your body and close relationships. Symptoms can feel overwhelming, but decades of research have shown that anxiety responds very well to therapy. Newer, evidence-based methods such as CBT, mindfulness, and relaxation-based interventions can significantly reduce symptoms and restore a sense of balance and control. Understanding the deep roots can liberate one from a lifetime of suffering. My goal is to provide a calm, compassionate space where we can use proven tools to help you understand your anxiety, ease the physical and emotional strain, and regain confidence in your ability to cope. If you’re ready to begin, I’d be happy to talk with you about how we might work together. Don't suffer any longer alone, reach out today.
