Understanding Depression

Depression is more than sadness. It can feel like a heaviness that makes even small tasks difficult, draining your energy, motivation, and sense of joy. It can affect sleep, appetite, focus, and relationships — and can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself or others. For some, it’s a constant low mood; for others, it comes in waves. While depression can feel isolating, it’s important to know that it’s treatable, and therapy can help you find relief and a renewed sense of purpose.

How I Work

My approach to treating depression is grounded in understanding the why behind your feelings — not only the symptoms themselves, but the deeper emotional and relational patterns that give rise to them. Together, we’ll look at how past experiences, loss, self-criticism, or unmet needs may continue to shape your present life in ways that keep you feeling stuck. Therapy becomes a space to slow down, notice what’s happening beneath the surface, and make sense of your feelings in a new way. Through this process, you can begin to develop greater self-understanding, compassion, and flexibility — opening space for hope and change where there may have been only discouragement before.

What Our Sessions Will Look Like

In our sessions, we’ll start by exploring how depression shows up for you — the thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations that accompany it, and the circumstances that may intensify it. We’ll set realistic goals that fit your pace and strengths, focusing both on practical steps for relief and deeper understanding of your emotional world. You’ll learn strategies to manage the day-to-day challenges while also gaining insight into the patterns that underlie them. Therapy is collaborative and supportive; you’ll never be doing this work alone.

Moving Forward

Depression can make life feel muted and difficult to navigate, but change is possible. Research shows that therapy can significantly reduce symptoms and help people feel more connected, hopeful, and resilient. Healing takes time, but with the right support, it’s absolutely achievable. My goal is to offer a safe, compassionate space where we can work together to ease your suffering, help you rediscover motivation and self-compassion, and build a more balanced and fulfilling life. If you’re ready to take the first step, I invite you to reach out — you don’t have to go through this on your own.
